Profile

Leigh-Ann specialises in professional negligence (particularly claims involving lawyers, accountants and construction professionals), product liability law (in which she is particularly regarded for pharmaceutical cases, multi-party litigation, cases involving complex scientific and technical evidence and commercial product liability claims), insurance law, general commercial litigation (particularly civil fraud), construction and energy/utility law. Until her appointment to silk, Leigh-Ann held the appointment of Junior Counsel to the Crown (A Panel) and acted for a wide range of Government departments and bodies on issues including public law, EC law and human rights. She has wide advocacy experience at all levels including the House of Lords.

 

Major cases in which Leigh-Ann is currently acting include:

  • The Employers’ Liability Policy Trigger Litigation, a major liability insurance case which was tried over 9 weeks in 2008 (reported at [2009] 2 All ER 26) and is currently on appeal to the Court of Appeal in which she is representing Zurich Insurance Company;
  • The Atomic Veterans Litigation, a group action arising out of the British nuclear tests in Australia and the South Pacific in the 1950s in which she is acting for the Ministry of Defence;
  • Claims arising out of non-therapeutic human experimentation with chemical warfare agents at Porton Down, in which she acts for the Ministry of Defence;
  • A judicial review of the vCJD Compensation Scheme, in which she is acting for the Secretary of State for Health;
  • Two very high value commercial fraud claims which involve a concurrent criminal investigation by the Serious Fraud Office.

 

Leigh-Ann is Consultant Editor and contributor to “The Regulation and Law of Medicines” (OUP, 2008), Editor of “Jackson & Powell on Professional Liability” (Thomson, 2007) and General Editor of “Human Rights and Civil Practice”. She is a CEDR accredited mediator.
